Home Runs on eBay are few and far between, but so sweet when they happen! I have had several over the years that stand out, they are what keeps me going and on the prowl for that elusive item.
What is a HOME RUN? A home run is that one of a kind, rare or unusual item that you bought for mere dollars that goes for way more than you ever thought it would. For instance, I once – years ago – found some old Poker Chips inside a metal document box that I was buying at an Estate Sale. As I checked out, I mentioned that there was something in the box, but the sales person said that they knew about it and the price included the contents. OK, document box – $10.00, sold the next week for $30.00 in my booth at the Flea Market. Now, “what are these 25 Poker Chips?”, I thought. After having them on the shelf for a year, I got tired of having them just sit in my eBay room and decided that they were Free, so to speak, so I listed them for my usual $9.99 starting bid (I actually saved one because I liked it). So I listed 24 Poker Chips of unknown origin and unknown material, but mentioned that it was possible that they were Ivory and did have what seemed to be a hand done etched crescent with a hand painted mustard band decorating the edge.
The auction went Live and after only 6 hours the price shot up to over $300.00 and I had tons of email. One potential customer told me how to determine if they were actually Ivory and they were. I added that information to my auction and waited for the last day. Those chips sold for $668.00! Talk about excited! That was enough to hook me on eBay for Life!
