My husband and I always hit the beach at this time of the year and this year was no different. We stayed in Sandestin, he was at a conference and I was on the prowl for goodies to list for you on eBay! I stumbled upon a little Estate Sale and got a good buy on a near complete Marx Play Set – The Alamo, with Davy Crockett.
What child of the fifties doesn’t hum that theme from time to time? Davy, Davy Crockett – King of the Wild Frontier. He was our HERO. On TV and in the movies, Fess Parker played the part to a T. Walt Disney had a real gold mine in the marketing of coonskin caps and other paraphenalia. I played with boys, so I was real into the whole Davy Crockett scene. My cousins, brother and I fought many an imaginery foe of the Alamo in the backyard and pastures. Our forts were not forts, but rather The Alamo. Shouts of “Remember the Alamo” rang out through the neighborhood as we defended the honor of Texas and fought for Freedom (OK, we were in Alabama, but still, you get the picture!).
This Marx Playset is like the one we played with on rainy days, days that the fight had to be brought indoors and to the kitchen table. Marx Play Sets are probably one of the fondest memories of a child of the fifties, they came in all types, from Barnyards and Farms, to Baby Nurseries, to great Battles such as this one, the Alamo. Due to the popularity of the TV show and the movie, the Alamo Play Set was much desired by boys AND girls across the nation.
If you would like to take a trip back in time to the simpler times of your childhood, perhaps this great Alamo Play Set would be just the thing to help you achieve that nirvana. Even if you are not in the market, you owe yourself the trip down memory lane, so just stop by and have a look.
Great Sale coming up here in Montgomery, AL on Friday. I will be back with more Fabulous Finds for you! janieruth
